Since the Premier League's inception in 1992, Southampton have been a regular presence in the elite division of English football. The principal honour of the club, formed in 1885, is being the FA Cup holders in 1976 but, since first winning promotion to the old Division One in 1966, Saints have spent just 11 seasons out of the top flight. Their longest absence was the spell in the Championship and League One between 2005 and 2012.
Southampton FC proudly support their men’s, women’s, Under 21’s and Under 18’s team. They also have a full academy whose vision is to produce a first team year-on-year made up of 50% Academy graduates who are world-class in their technical ability on the field and behaviours off the field competing on the European stage.
Southampton FC home ground since 2001 has been St Mary's Stadium. The team plays in red and white shirts. They have been nicknamed "The Saints" because of the club's beginnings as a church football team at St Mary's Church. The Saints' anthem is the popular sports tune "When the Saints Go Marching In", and since the club's official nickname is "the Saints", they are one of only a few teams who do not change the original lyric.
Southampton Football Club are committed to ensuring a sustainable future for the club, their fans and the community. Their sustainability strategy signals their commitment to live up to their environmental, corporate, fan and social responsibilities. Playing the right way today, for a better tomorrow. The Halo Effect has a dual meaning, inspired by their crest and club's heritage, whilst also signalling the combined positive impact they hope their numerous initiatives will have on their people and community.
