Description

Tropical, prickly pear and white pear.

Tasting Notes: From the moment the grapes came into the cellar the flavours and aromas of this unique product were exceptional. Very tropical with strong undertones of a Karoo prickly pear. The flavours were fermented slowly to create great structure and integration. Perfect to drink now and in the years to come.

Food Pairing: Ideal for spicy dishes as well as fresh lobster and other seafood.

Planted in 1979, the vines are 42 years old and part of the Old Vine Project. These are bush vines which means that the fruit hangs very close to the ground. The cultivar is Chenin Blanc and in the year it was planted Chenin Blanc was referred to as Steen. It is also the most planted white variety in South Africa and many farmers still refer to it by that name. The word "steen" directly translates into English as "stone".

In South Africa, it's possible to register a single vineyard block giving it a specific name. In this case, the name translates into School Block, after one of the first schools for the children of farm labourers was built on a piece of this land. Ever since it has been referred to as Skoolblok.

This outstanding wine is the result of the careful attention of Tiaan Burger and is only available on allocation.
