What is Pre + Pro 15?
Pre + Pro 15 contains 15 different strains of friendly bacteria, a prebiotic fibre, and selected B Vitamins. Our gut is home to millions of friendly bacteria, these bacteria allow our body to absorb nutrients correctly. The prebiotic fibre, FOS, nourishes our friendly bacteria to ensure they can flourish. The B vitamins play a role in normal macronutrient metabolism and normal energy-yielding metabolism, supporting gut health further.
Together these ingredients provide support for the gut. Poor gut health can cause digestive issues, immunity problems, and even low mood.
Probiotics and Prebiotics
Our gut is home to millions of good bacteria, sometimes called gut flora. These bacteria play an important role in digestion, when levels are low our body will struggle to absorb nutrients from food. Prebiotics are a type of fibre that our body cannot break down however, they can be utilised by our friendly bacteria. Prebiotics feed and strengthen good bacteria.
Many factors can negatively affect our gut flora. Antibiotics cannot distinguish between bad bacteria and good bacteria so will reduce our gut flora. A diet high in sugar and low in fibre, stress, and ailments such as IBS will negatively affect it too.
Maintaining good gut flora can be key to maintain a healthy immune system. 70% of our immune system is in our gut.
Pre + Pro 15 can also be useful for preventing and managing thrush and candida. Along with bacteria, our gut is home to yeasts, our gut flora keeps these yeasts in check, and in the gut, without them, yeast can overgrow causing thrush and candida.
Mood
Our gut bacteria produce hundreds of neurotransmitters. One of these transmitters, Serotonin, plays an important role in regulating mood. Low serotonin levels have been linked with depression, low mood, and migraines. 95 % of our serotonin is made by gut bacteria. It is thought that low levels of gut bacteria may influence mood.
